The original members were from the South West region of France known as the Béarn in the Pyrénées. The organizers formed the society for the mutual aid, benefit and protection of their compatriots from the South-West of France, which constituted the majority of the French colony of San Francisco at that time.
Today the Society consists of French or French descendants who are submitted by members and recommended by committee. The goals of the Society are to maintain camaraderie between all its members and to ensure the preservation of French culture in the Bay Area.
